Why walking is fantastic for your health

Walking is a fantastic exercise to improve overall health.  Walking is a weight-bearing exercise, as you carry your own body weight, the benefits of weight-bearing exercise include:

  • Increased cardiovascular and pulmonary fitness
  • Reduced risk of heart disease and stroke
  • Improved management of condition such as hypertension, high cholesterol, joint and muscle pain and diabetes
  • Improved balance and bone strength
  • Reduced body fat

 

To get the health benefits of this weight-bearing exercise it is suggested that you must walk for at least 30 minutes, most days, at a brisk pace.  Moderate activates such as walking pose little health risk but provide multiple health benefits.
