If there’s one thing that’s emblematic of an extremly healthy lifestyle, it’s a green smoothie.

Green Smoothies have been the flavour of the month for… well, a lot longer than just a month now, and here at SMT we think it’s time to move on to something new. Smoothies in general are a fantastic meal substitute if you’re on the go, pushed for time, or want to pack a whole bunch of nutrients in one hit. If, like us, you’re bored to tears of your smoothie resembling the Hulk’s second cousin, we have an alternative for you that will have your tastebuds (and insides) singing.

Therefore, we’re introducing another power smoothie that’s so nutritionally dense you’ll be left wondering how it’s even legal. Unlikely ingredient allies of beetroot, strawberries, celery, avocado and lemon come together make for one healthy and delicious… PINK smoothie.

Whether you’re just starting a new health kick, or coming off a particularly bad period of eating, this is a great first meal or snack to get back in to good habits.  The ingredients of the smoothie hold vast health benefits: beetroot helps cleanses the liver and purifies the blood, avocado helps lower blood pressure, lubricates joints and has plenty of “healthy” fats, and is high in fibre, strawberries are high in antioxidants and are a rich source of vitamin C, and celery acts as mild diuretic as well as promotes the feeling of fullness.

 Smoothie recipe:

  • 1/2 medium avocado
  • 2 celery stalks, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 small/medium beet roughly chopped
  • 1 lemon, juiced (about 3 tablespoons or so)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 4 large ice cubes
  • 1 apple (if you’d like the smoothie to be sweeter) roughly chopped
  • 1 cup water or coconut water
