That’s why we are sharing with you three gut boosting recipes that are easy to add to your diet to boost your gut health and keep you feeling great.
Firstly, we have added a yummy bone broth. Bone broths are nutrient dense and easy to digest. They are also packed with glutamine which will help bring your gut back to health.
Secondly, we have added in a Sauerkraut Recipe. Sauerkraut is a fermented food. Fermented foods are great for gut health as they are packed with enzymes and probiotics.
Thirdly, we have added in a delicious Mexican Spice Recipe. The recipe is packed with fantastic spices to help stimulate digestion and reduce digestive discomfort.
Beef Bone Broth Recipe
- 5 kg beef bones. It is good to have a mix such as an oxtail, neck bones and short ribs
- 2 carrots chopped
- 2 celery stalks chopped
- 2 leeks chopped
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 bay leaves
- 3 sprigs of thyme
- Half a bunch of parsley
- 1 teaspoon of peppercorns
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 5 litres of water
Preheat the oven to 200 C. Place the bones on a tray coated with olive oil. Bake for 30 minutes then flip all the bones and bake for another 30 minutes
Add the roasted bones, vegetables, vinegar, bay leaves, thyme, parsley, peppercorns and garlic in a large soup pot. Cover contents with water
Cook on a medium heat unit the contents is boiling. Bring the heat down to low and cook for 12 hours. Keep your eye on the broth and top up the water if needed.
Once cooked strain the ingredients. Cool the liquid to room temperature then place in the fridge.
- 8 cups red or green cabbage finely sliced
- 2 teaspoons of sea salt
- 1 small beetroot grated
- 3 whole carrots grated
- 3 tablespoons of fresh ginger finely grated
- 2 tablespoons of fresh turmeric finely grated
- 4 cloves garlic finely grated
Add finely grated cabbage to a large mixing bowl and top with sea salt. Massage cabbage for ten minutes to release its juices
Add shredded beet, carrot, ginger, turmeric, and garlic and mix for 5 minutes until combined
Place the sauerkraut mixture into sterilized jars and press down firmly to pack. Make sure the liquid just covers the mixture. If there is not enough add a little bit of water. Make sure you leave at least an inch of space spare at the top of the jar
Leave the jars in a warm place around 20 degrees for 2 weeks. Opening your jars once per day to release the air.
After 2 weeks seal the jars up and they should hold of at least 6 months
Mexican Spice Mix
- 1 teaspoon Chilli Powder
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Power
- 1⁄2 teaspoon Dried Oregano
- 1 teaspoon Paprika
- 2 teaspoons ground Cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground Coriander
- Pinch of Salt and Pepper
Mix well. Add gradually when cooking to meet your tastes. Add more salt to taste.
