Health Benefits of the Beach

Everyone loves a day at the beach, it’s good fun for everyone, a great way to exercise, get some sun, socialise and is super relaxing, but did you know it offers a multitude of health benefits to?

Sun –

While it’s important to be sun safe and not get burnt, there are so many health benefits the sun can provide.

Just 10 minutes of sunshine a day can help you to produce your daily requirement of Vitamin D, which you require for calcium absorption, strong bones, etc. This exposure can also increase endorphin levels which is a hormonal response that’s basically your happiness levels.

The warmth of the sun opens up your pores so that the salt water can get in and pull out nasty toxins.

But don’t forget to Slip, Slop, Slap still!

Sand –

Today most of us wear shoes all of the time, which doesn’t do anything much for the muscles in our feet! Walking barefoot on the sand is excellent strengthening exercise for our feet muscles, and the sand is great for stimulating the nerve endings in our feet, which is why it feels so good to walk on the sand!

Sand is a natural skin exfoliator, which is great for removing dead skin that can clog your pores.

Surf –

Seawater contains minerals such as magnesium, potassium and iodine, which help fight infection, heal and detoxify, as well as other therapeutic benefits.

The ocean is great for your skin, there minerals in seawater that are anti aging and can improve skin elasticity, keeping you looking young and helping to remove toxins and oils.

Swimming is a fantastic all over body work out which is linked to a decrease in stress, anxiety and depression.

Swimming is fantastic for rehabilitation and a great option for people suffering from injures and arthritis who still need to exercise.

The calming sounds of waves breaking are often used to ease those who find it difficult to sleep.

The sea contains quite a lot of Iodine, which is essential for keeping energy levels, hormone levels and metabolic rate stable and hair and nail growth at an optimal rate. It’s also antibacterial and antifungal, which destroys bacteria on the skin and helps with healing. The Iodine is absorbed through your skin when you swim.
