Iced Tea Benefits & Recipes

Iced tea is fast becoming a popular summer drink of choice, however with so many varieties to choose from its hard to know what is best for us, and our health, and what is not so good.  When compared to soft drinks, some iced teas can have comparable sugar levels, this is most certainly a negative aspect of buying pre made iced tea, which is why we strongly encouraging making your own!  Brewing your own iced tea can have numerous benefits which include much less sugar/no refined sugars, no additives or colors, and all the naturally occurring antioxidants that come hand in hand with brewing your own tea.  Here are some fantastically flavorful iced tea recipe for you to try, brew a large batch and consume daily in your DROP bottle so you can stay refreshed, hydrated and healthy.

 

Sugar-free lemon and thyme iced tea

 

Ingredients

5 sprigs of fresh thyme

1 cinnamon stick

Juice and zest of 2 lemons

3 black tea bags

1 teaspoon of stevia  

1 slice lemon to garnish

 

Method

1/ Bring 6 cups of water, thyme, cinnamon, lemon juice and zest to boil in a large saucepan over a medium-high heat

2/ Remove from heat after it has begun to boil and add tea bags and stevia

3/ Set aside for 15 minutes to steep and intensify flavour

4/ Remove tea bags and allow to cool to room temperature

5/ Strain the mixture and add to a pitcher

6/ Leave in the fridge to cool until ready to serve

7/ Garnish with sliced lemon when serving.

 

Strawberry ice tea recipe

 

Ingredients

½ cup stevia

250 grams of fresh strawberries

3 black tea bags

2 litres of water

 

Method

1/ In a kettle, brew 8 cups of water with tea bags

2/ Hull and chop strawberries and blend in a food processor until pureed

3/ Press strawberries through a strainer to remove seeds

5/ Place puree and stevia in a large container or pitcher

6/ Pour hot tea over sugar & strawberries and allow the sugar to dissolve (make sure you have removed the tea bags)

7/ Add remaining water and serve over ice
