How to Avoid Dieting-Related Nutritional Deficiencies
Researchers and scientists have long concluded that a diet high in nutrient-dense foods such as vegetables and fruits is the key to health and wellbeing. That being the case, it’s clear that nutritional deficiencies can significantly impact the effective functioning of your body. For example, a simple lack of iron can impair your stomach acid. Low stomach acid will cause the maldigestion of proteins, making your iron deficiency worse. Also, you may experience bloating and develop even more nutritional deficiencies that ultimately bring your health down.
This is why dieting can take such a toll on the body. Many of us have become so obsessed with the idea of losing weight that we end up forgetting that our primary goal is healthy living. As we cut back on calories and reduce our daily intake of proteins, fats or carbohydrates, we can end up feeling tired and lethargic rather than healthier. Moreover, studies have shown that even the best foods may not have all the nutrients we need, in the relevant quantities. For example, some food has been grown in soil that is deficient in key minerals, or the nutrient content of food may be lost during its transportation and storage.
Fortunately, there is a way to avoid dieting-related nutritional deficiencies: by taking multivitamins/multiminerals. Taking a good-quality supplementary vitamin B complex (contains all B vitamins) as well as vitamins A, C, D and E, and important minerals will allow your body to perform at its best while you are restricting your dietary intake. This will also help you maintain good energy levels and the health of your muscles, bones and nervous system while ensuring your skin and hair keep looking their best.
Note that two kinds of vitamins are available: synthetic vitamins and wholefood or organic vitamins. Synthetic vitamins are created in a laboratory. They do not contain the natural goodness of wholefood vitamins, which are derived directly from plants and fruits and are therefore absorbed differently by the body. We recommend opting for wholefood-based vitamins rather than synthetic ones whenever possible.
It’s an idea to consult your local doctor or pharmacist to work out the best option for you.
